We just completed one of our most successful food drives yet!
About 1 in 4 students in Maine is food insecure. Undernourishment deeply affects students' lives including reducing their ability to learn, which further impacts their future. Food insecurity is a terrible problem, and Stanley Subaru is making efforts to solve it. We partnered with WABI TV5 and the Maine Education Association in 2015 to End Student Hunger.

With the support of Hancock County residents so many of whom are our wonderful guests, we collected over 1000 pounds of food to distribute to children in need in 2015. We are making efforts to do even better this year, having collected several hundred hundred pounds that went to local schools in early February.
Stanley Subaru delivered food to Trenton Elementary School February 1st. After Steffanie Rugoski, the school's secretary, made a little room with the help from students like Shane Bonilla, they were able to fit it in the offices for distribution. Rugoski noted the staff support, saying that teachers buy food for the Trenton Elementary pantry program.
The next day Stanley Subaru visited Ellsworth High School where Carol Ann McEachern-Murphy is working with student leaders like Julia Montague to improve storage and distribution at their school. With Stanley Subaru's help, the cabinet, shelving, and tables were brimming!

Julia Montague organizes food at the Ellsworth High School pantry
Julia Montague has been an integral part in growing the program at Ellsworth High. “Being a part of the food pantry makes me feel like I'm making a difference in the world. Sometimes we feel so small, like nothing we do really makes a positive impact on anyone. Being able to help my peers means so much me, because not only am I helping someone out, I'm helping out those who mean something to me and who I care deeply about.”
Our sincerest thanks to the work of everyone at Trenton Elementary School and Ellsworth High School, especially the work of the student volunteers! We are honored to be able to help!
