Dave Cookson, one of our excellent service advisors, appreciates the visibility they give up close. He particularly appreciates the visibility they give to the sides of the vehicle, which allows him to keep a better eye out to avoid critters like skunks and raccoons. Bryan Harriman, our Parts Manager, really likes his, and he really appreciates how effective they are during some of the dense fog that shows up here in Hancock County in Maine.

Foglights basically work in two ways.
First, fog lights can reach under fog to light up the ground without interference. Many fogs don't quite reach the ground, because they are supported by a small cushion of air. This cushion lifts the fog off the ground just a little bit. It's often just enough for fog lights to spread a wide, low beam underneath. Without all the stuff in the way, the light can reach farther to give you additional visibility. Subaru foglights are positioned in a recess in the front fender. This enables them to be low, operable, and still maintain maximal vehicle safety ratings.
Second, fog lights being lower means that the light that is bounced off the fog is less likely to produce glare. Properly fitted foglights don't aim up, which means that foglights are way less likely to reflect back into your eye when driving. Glare makes poor visibility conditions even worse and reduces how far you can see even more. Foglights produce less glare which means more visibility for you.
