Lets start with what "Wellness" really means. The website www.definitionofwellness.com describes it below:
"Wellness is an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence. Process means that improvement is always possible. Aware means that we are continually seeking more information about how we can improve. Choices means that we consider a variety of options and select those in our best interest.  Success is determined by each individual to be their collection of life accomplishments."

Wellness has 10 Demensions (with example activities for each)
1. Social Wellness (believe in yourself; learn from the past, plan for the future, live in the moment; participate in a walk for a good cause)
2. Occupational Wellness (everyday look for some pleasure in the workplace and savor those moments; save time by asking, "why?")
3. Spiritual Wellness (nurture your spiritual side; access the wisdom within you; discover the paradox of forgiveness)
4. Physical Wellness (fit and healthy bodies come in many shapes and sizes; make exercise a lifelong habit by selecting activities you enjoy; feed your body a variety of fresh, healthy foods and energize with water)
5. Intellectual Wellness (learn a new word and share what you learned; visit the library or museum; relax with a crossword or board game with your family)
6. Emotional Wellness (fear not the future; find two positives for every negative; keep an attitude of gratitude)
7. Environmental Wellness (improve the environment and recycle; create a garden complete with compost; enjoy the outdoors more often)
8. Financial Wellness (save money by shopping smart at the grocery store; plan for your retirement; donate what you can to charities most deserving)
9. Mental Wellness (learn stress reduction tips; seek counseling or medical advice for persistent depression or anxiety; learn to meditate and breathe deeply)
10.Medical Wellness (regular physicals with your doctor; address health concerns such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiac health)

How Wellness Relates to the Workplace:

The True Health Employee Wellness Program is mentioned in this week's Ellsworth American.

The program was also featured recently in an article by the Bangor Daily News.

Some of the ways Stanley Subaru is becoming healthier include planning to build a walking trail on Stanley Subaru property, trying out a new fitness class at the local YMCA, joining Weight Watchers, and promoting healthy behaviors by creating a Health and Wellness Library of Resources, and offering materials on tobacco cessation, healthy eating habits, and tips for lowering cholesterol.
Let's get healthy! Let's support each other in our wellness efforts!
