Vehicle Profile: The 2012 Subaru Impreza
More room, refinement and increased fuel economy are just the beginning.
The Subaru Impreza has been one of the
perennial best-selling compact sedans in America thanks to its
outstanding safety performance, reliability and standard Symmetrical
All-Wheel Drive system. For 2012, the Subaru Impreza is all new,
building on an already roomy, safe and fuel-efficient vehicle to become a
vehicle with the highest fuel economy of any all-wheel drive car in
America.
"The 2012 Impreza is going to fly off the shelves! There is no other All Wheel Drive car with this kind of gas mileage, that's a Top Safety Pick, and looks this COOL! It'll knock your socks off!"

The 2012 Subaru Impreza (MSRP $17,495) isn't just improved. It's a
whole new car, starting with increased interior roominess thanks to
thinner, redesigned roof and door trims, up to 165 fewer pounds in
weight, a more refined interior and ride quality and better handling
than the previous generation. Built on a longer wheelbase of 104.1
inches (2011 models measured 103.2), the 2012 Impreza also features
shorter overhangs to deliver a vehicle with full-size sedan ride
qualities and roominess without growing any longer than its 180.3-inch
predecessor.
The heart of the 2012 Impreza is an all-new 2.0-liter, horizontally
opposed flat four-cylinder BOXER engine; a signature design of all
vehicles wearing the Subaru badge. This more efficient engine features a
Dual Active Valve Control System (DAVCS) for optimum power, fuel
efficiency and low emissions, balancing 148 hp and 145 lb/ft of torque
with 25 mpg city and 34 mpg highway in the five-speed manual or 27 mpg
city and 36 mpg highway in the Lineartronic CVT (Continuously Variable
Transmission).

A new electric power steering system improves fuel efficiency by an
additional two percent, and lower rolling resistance tires reduce fuel
economy, robbing road friction. And to help improve driver fuel
efficiency, a new ECO gauge helps indicate the most fuel-efficient
driving behavior.
Thanks to new chassis components like liquid hydraulic engine
mounts for enhanced vibration damping, pillow ball bushings and
strengthened, double-wishbone suspension, the 2012 Impreza has ride
qualities, stability and handling responsiveness that outperform all
class competitors.
Subaru engineers made numerous safety improvements for 2012. Front
seat occupants will notice the windshield is placed further in front for
a sense of even more interior space, and thin A- and B-pillars all
around help increase visibility out all windows.
Subaru engineers also incorporated more high-tensile steel into the
Subaru-exclusive Ring Shaped Frame Reinforcement body structure, making
the already safe Impreza even safer in the new, more stringent National
Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) crash tests. And all-new
driver's knee airbag and headrests for all three rear seats protect
occupants even better.
"The all new soft-touch interior conveys quality and luxury, never before seen in the Impreza models."

All Impreza models get standard safety equipment like Vehicle
Dynamics Control, four-wheel disc Antilock Braking System with
Electronic Brakeforce Distribution and Brake Override system, which
prioritizes the brake pedal in an event where both the brake and gas
pedals are pressed simultaneously.
Premium models receive an all-new six-speaker stereo system as
standard equipment, which features high-tech innovations like Bluetooth
hands-free phone capability, Radio Data Broadcast System (RDBS) iPod
integration and inputs for both USB and 3.5mm auxiliary.
For even more technology, the Impreza is available with a 6.1-inch touchscreen, LCD display Navigation system featuring voice control, XM Satellite Radio and iTunes tagging. Seeking the ultimate in comfort, convenience and luxury? Then check out the new Limited and Sport five-door models that offer leather upholstery and a 4.3-inch display audio system with HD Radio - features never before offered on an Impreza.

A Sampling of Reviews of the 2012 Impreza:
"Compared to the 2011 Impreza, the 2012 has a nicer interior with soft-touch padding on the dashboard and doors. And while the new model is roomier and boasts better fuel economy, handling actually feels more responsive than the outgoing model. Plus, the excellent ride has been retained." --Consumer Reports, October 2011.
"The improved Impreza stands to steal buyers away from brands that have taken their eyes off the ball. Its interior quality has jumped, right when some class leaders have foolishly allowed their interiors and feature sets to decay." The Chicago Tribune, October 11, 2011.
"Impreza delivers a well-rounded package that's roomy, pleasant to drive, and very practical. For shoppers adventuresome enough to look beyond the default choices in small cars, the Impreza could be a very satisfying pick." -- Consumer Guide, October 28, 2011
