Dry nice but serious safety concerns
By NY!en | on Thursday, April 08, 2021
This is my third Outback. By far tis 2020 model rides the best, handles the best, is the most comfortable and looks the best. The biggest problem is the new 11 inch display, although looks pretty slick, is a serious safety concern. Almost everything that needs to be done is on this display. Iis difficult to find without looking at the display (and not the road). Imagine durning a snow storm and you want to go into xmode (extra bad weather traction), you need to navigate from the home screen to the second level screen and then find the xmode option. This like finding many of the things you need to do is impossible to do safely. Also the options on the screen can be difficult to use. For instance, when you select one of the preset radio stations, the others all disappear and several selections then need to be made to recover them. Again good luck doing this and driving at 55 MPH. Also the quality of this model does not appear to be up to par with past models. I only have 4 thousand miles an already the airbag module failed, the battery had to be replaced, the automatic climate control. is completely inaccurate and the wave to open lift gate only functions sometimes. It is a shame, this Outback has potential to be a 5 star vehicle, but I can only rate at 3 stars… - 5.0
Great Upgrade to our 2011 Outback
By WayneB | on Friday, May 22, 2020
We replaced our 2011 Outback with a 2020 Outback with nearly identical amenities. The 2011 was our first Subaru and proved to be rock-solid for 150,000 miles so we're hoping the same will be true with this one. I'll start with my my negative comments - 1) the Auto Start/Stop is beyond annoying. Takes a minimum of 3 steps to turn off EVERY TIME YOU START THE CAR. Hoping for a software upgrade that at least moves it to the home page; 2) too many features are driven from the center screen (e.g., HVAC, audio...etc.), which can be hard to see in certain light conditions, making it quite dangerous; 3) way to much focus on fuel economy (we purchased another Outback partially because of its frugality, so I don't need numerous indications of MPG, accelerator depression... etc.). Some of the plastic parts in the back are a little cheap feeling, but at least they don't rattle or vibrate (yet). The dash-board glove-box is a joke - really miss the larger one on the 2011. Still getting used to the myriad of electronic features, so I won't pre-judge. Needless to say - read the book. And again. Now for the good - This 2020 Outback is a pleasant improvement over the 2011. Road handling is much improved (very little body roll and better steering response/feel), fuel economy is improved (32 mpg first tank) even with added horsepower. Interior noise is reduced. Seats are very comfortable (I'm 6/1 250 lbs). Finally, car seats for children can be installed without ruining your fingers and hands (not to mention your attitude for the rest of the day). Also, I change my own oil so the placement of the oil filter is a welcome relief (should be no more permanent scars due to burning the skin off my hands).… - 4.0
function and quality in all purpose cross-over
By Jesse | on Saturday, December 28, 2019
I'm a first time Subaru Outback owner but have friends with outbacks. Outback has huge following. I bought the outback touring XT because I wanted an SUV with a safe comfortable ride and functionality for the highway or off-road for parks and snow. The Touring XT provides that. It's far superior to my previous Equinox in handling. While there are some great mid and full size SUVs on the market the outback gives great function and comfort at a reasonable price with high safety features. I strongly recommend the turbo with 260 hp unless you only drive in the city. The base engine has about 182 hp. While I'm a tech geek I do feel the screen sacrificed ease of use for appearance. The outback should be strongly considered for those who want safety, comfort, function and do not need or want a 3 row SUV.…
