The Stanley Subaru Scoop

On Friday, May 25, the teachers and principals of Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School met in the cafeteria for a special thank you from Stanley Subaru and Hannaford. Mark Politte personally delivered $100 Hannaford gift cards to the 52 classroom teachers at Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School.

For nine years now we've delivered care packages to all our locals schools on Teacher Appreciation Day. This year on Teacher Appreciation Day, we held the Maine reveal of the all-new Subaru eight-passenger vehicle, the Ascent. The reveal was broadcast live on WABI, and Stanley Subaru owners were invited to be the first people in Maine to experience the Ascent. While there, we asked their guests to vote for their favorite school to receive a special bonus Teacher Appreciation gift in celebration of the new vehicle. Our guests overwhelmingly chose Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School.

"We know a lot of teachers, and we know that many of them dip into their own pocket to help keep students fed, particularly at the end of the year like this," said Mark Politte, referencing the fact that 1 in 4 Maine children are food insecure. According to No Kid Hungry, most teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on food for their students over the course of a year. "We're invested in helping these teachers continue to do the good work they do and letting them know that they're not alone."

"For nine years, we've delivered care packages to every teacher at every school we can reach in our area as part of Teacher Appreciation. This year we delivered 600 care packages to our local teachers. We try to give them things they can use like mugs, water bottles, and something we've done every year – complimentary oil changes in the month of May. The oil change is definitely the most popular; they come in excited to use that coupon. Our teachers do so much for our communities, and we want to do everything we can to let them know that we care," explained Mark. "They get a lot of well-earned praise during Teacher Appreciation Day and Teacher Appreciation Week, but at Stanley Subaru, we go for a whole Teacher Appreciation Month, because we really want them to know how much they mean to us."

Hannaford manager Debbie Murray was an invaluable partner in making this happen. She was present at the selection of Ellsworth Elementary-Middle School during the Ascent reveal, and she met with teachers Friday to say thank you, as well. On behalf of Hannaford she donated 17 of the 59 total gift cards. It was great to work together on a project so near and dear to both our businesses.

Our biggest thanks to Ellsworth American, Star 97.7, and of course WABI for helping spread the word about some good news around town!
