Starlink integration is not only capable of reading your incoming text messages out loud, but can display them on the multi-touch HD display. It can also update you on news, sports, and stocks.
The multi-touch display really starts to shine with the navigation system. Much like your smartphone, you can spread to zoom in, pinch to zoom out, and swipe to scroll through maps, and you can even rotate the map to get your bearings.AHA integration means you can look up dining and accommodations and link them directly to directions, making it easier to find your way where you want to go. You even have the option of live-traffic display.
You can also use voice commands to look up addresses and find directions. In fact, the voice controls are so robust that not only can you make and receive phone calls and texts, you can get directions, set the audio system to play any of your radio stations, including streaming, and you can set the climate controls.
Safety is one of the things that sets Subaru apart, and that continues with Starlink. Automatic Collision Notification will, in the event of an airbag deployment, put you in touch with a Starlink Advisor who will contact first responders if necessary. For non-collision emergencies such as medical emergencies, Starlink Advisors are standing by and accessible at the press of a single button, the SOS button overhead by the interior lights. It works anywhere in the US and Canada.
Starlink runs internal diagnostics on major systems. If it detects an issue, you will get emailed the issue and suggestions for fixing it yourself (or how to find a nearby dealer), helping you stay on top of your maintenance needs. In addition to noting any major issues, you'll also get a monthly health-report email.
PC Magazine calls Starlink, "an interface that allows easy management of the car's incredible number of infotainment features. And while in the past Subaru has been at the back of the pack when it comes to in-dash technology, the multitouch interface and the features it controls puts the Editors' Choice 2015 Outback 2.5i Limited way ahead of the competition."
