The CR-V is a popular vehicle for a reason. It's an IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus and Honda is in the top ten at  #10 in Consumer Reports Best Brands with 88% of the line recommended. CR-V has the best mileage (up 1/2 over the Forester) and edges out the Forester and RAV for horsepower and torque. It doesn't have as much ground clearance, doesn't come with all-wheel drive standard, and doesn't come with touchscreen standard, so bear that in mind.

Summary

We're obviously a little biased toward the Forester, but it's hard not to be. It has the lowest MSRP, is the only vehicle to come with all-wheel drive standard, has the best ground clearance by two and a half inches, most cargo space by several cubic feet, has most convenience features, and walks away with the greatest array of accolades and recommendations. Did we mention it has the lowest MSRP?

Save money; drive safe; have fun.
